Today I am thankful for the commitment of our softball players.
Today was a conditioning day. We condition and lift with the tennis girls too. Today, softball out numbered tennis 22 to 10. I was very happy to see all our jv and varsity girls committed to getting ready for the season. I was also impressed by their heavy lifting and mile run. Also, even though basketball season just ended Monday, our two basketball players were working out too! I'm really excited for our season.
Today I am thankful for our committed softball players! Looking forward to softball 2012!

Getting Caught Up
Today, I took the day off for two appointments and to get caught up. I also had to vote for Western's School Bond!! I had errands to run, and a to do list to check off. Best Buy treated me very well on a big electronic purchase. Thank you Best Buy. I got some lunch at Panera and had dinner with Josh! I feel like I'm going into my softball season (13 days) prepared. Today was a great day. I am thankful for my personal day of appointments and my to do list! Also, I am thankful for our bond passing!!

Josh's Birthday
Today we celebrated Josh's birthday with our families at my mom and Larry's. His sister Erin arrived on Saturday afternoon. We had lunch and had a great time shopping and eating in Ann Arbor. Today his parent's arrived early. We visited and then headed over to my parents. It was nice to celebrodate Josh's birthday with everyone today. The Scholten's joined our crew as well as Grandma Stevens.
Currently, there is a war (Modern War Fare 3) is going on in my living room. Shots fired!! I already thanked Erin for the new video game for Josh.... (kidding, glad he's enjoying it).
Josh is a very geniue, caring, and hard working guy! He would do anything for anyone else. He's a great husband, son, brother, brother in-law, son in-law and friend. I think everyone at my mom's house today agrees. I am glad we all got to celebrate Josh's day!
Today, I am thankful for Josh and his birthday!! I'm glad I said 'YES' to a date 8 years ago today!

Workout
Today, I am thankful for my morning workout. Josh and I went to bed early and I actually got over 6 hours of sleep. I woke up, got dressed, and headed to the weight room. No one was in there. So I put in the head phones and just started running (on the treadmill). I actually felt good. Really good. 45 minutes of cardio and then some lifting and I was feeling like my old self! My sister in law Erin was coming for a visit and I wanted to get the house clean and ready. The rest of my day was a success all because I had a motivating morning workout! Today, I am thankful for my great morning workout!!!

Friday
Today I was so thankful that it was Friday. Now we were 'supposed' to have a snow day, but apparently the snow headed north! Bogus way to have to start a Friday, with work!!
But today was a fairly easy Friday. I got to workout for a while after work, come home shower, and take a power nap!! No home events to set up for or clean up afterwards. Just time to relax and have dinner with Josh.
Today I am thankful for getting home on a Friday before 5pm!

High School Friends
I received two surprises at work today. As I was heading on a walk to the middle school, I received a text from a good friend and former classmate Meghan Mary McDaniel, now Mahardy. Meghan and I have always stayed in touch throughout college and beyond. She's an fantastic volleyball player. She even holds some school records. Meg and I were pregnant at the same time. We were due about three days apart in May. We haven't talked in a few months, but she randomly sent me a "hey, how are you doing?" text. Meg's text reminded me how nice it is that despite the distance between us, a simple text can mean a lot. It was nice to hear she had been thinking about Josh and me. She's always been a caring friend. I'm excited for Meghan and Joe to have their baby boy in May. I'm sure they will make great parents!!
Ironically, as I was reading Meg's text, I walked right by another classmate and middle school English teacher, Lindsay Bacon now Adams. I was shocked to see Lindsay because she had been out on maternity leave since right before Christmas break. As I asked Lindsay how she was doing, she quickly and sincerely asked how I was doing. Her kindness was overwhelming...in a good way. She was apologetic and caring. I told her who I had just received a text from and we talked about Meg's pregnancy and Lindsay's return to work. Lindsay looks great for giving birth in December!! Her son is a cute mini clone of her husband Chad (who we also went to high school with).
Today it was ironic how within ten minutes I received such support from two former high school classmates and friends whom I hadn't talked to in a while.
Today I an thankful for the friends I made in high school.

Tanning
Today my thankful is a little bit ironic. Today, I am thankful for a tanning bed. Yes, yes, I know they are 'bad' for you. However, the 18 minutes that I lay there, I imagine myself laying on a beach in Florida under the hot sun. Afterwards, my vitamin D is activated and I feel great!
Tonight, I am thankful for my once a week tanning session! :)

Pancakes for Dinner
Tonight my intentions of having a healthy dinner, Subway, went out the window. I had lunch at 1:30pm today. I went with the varsity girls basketball team to Lansing Christian for their 6pm game. When I got home at 830pm, I put in my sweatpants and a hoodie and didn't want to leave. Together Josh and I discussed how our days went and made pancakes together. Now as I sit here feeling like I should have worked out (shoulda, woulda, coulda), I am thankful for mine and Josh's pancakes for dinner! :) Guess, I'll workout tomorrow. :)

President's Day
Today I am thankful for President's Day!
President's Day meant I got to have my niece Paige and sister Tara spend the night. I didn't have to get up early. I didn't have to hear my alarm on my watch at 6am! The best part, I didn't have to WORK!!!
I got to spend my morning and afternoon with Tara and Paige. I got to eat lunch with them at Panera! I got to drink Diet Pepsi. I got to take a nap! I worked for a few hours, but then I got to workout with Josh. We then watched The Bachelor while eating some pop corn, on the couch. All this to celebrate the United States Presidents!

Three kids under 26 months old!
I knew today was going to be a challenge. Josh was not looking forward to this afternoon as much as I was today.
Trisha and Nick were out of town and Nick's parents had the Wyatt and Eastyn until 1:30pm when they dropped them off here. They had a party to attend and I think were ready for a kid break. Also, this is Tara's weekend to work. Mom and Larry had Paige until 2pm when they dropped her off here. So three kids and two adults for over 5 hours!! We could do this right?!
Well, we are still married and I would STILL like to have kids someday. Josh...well, this is my blog right? There were only a couple times that the babies both cried at the same time. Wyatt pretty much played with every toy we own. Easy. Tonight we had a diaper explosion that required mine and Josh's attention. Paige is certainly feeling better. All and all a good day.
I love the boys, don't get me wrong, but I absolutely love rocking Paige to sleep. She is just too dang cuddly and cute! Soon she'll be 13 and want nothing to do with her "old" Aunt so I'll enjoy my time with her now.
Today, I am thankful for my afternoon with my nephews and my niece! It was a challenge, but rewarding. I love these kids. They are awesome! I'm glad my sisters allow us to watch them. :)

A visit with my friend Jenna
This afternoon, Josh and I took a trip to Flat Rock Michigan to visit my friend Jenna Sharp!
Jenna has been my friend since high school. We played sports together and even coached some softball together. She's now a great 3rd grade teacher and still a better athlete than me. I appreciate our long standing friendship.
Jenna's life has changed tremendously the past few years. Her strength to persevere always amazes me. She never gives up. Tonight was proof, she's come out ahead in life.
We visited and took a tour of Jenna's new house. She's worked hard to purchase such a nice home. We had dinner and played some cards ate some M&Ms and drank some DP. It was a fun Saturday evening with Jenna and her family. :)
Tonight, I am thankful for my good friend Jenna Sharp!!

Senior Night
Tonight was a bittersweet evening at Western High School. Western's senior girl's player their last high school game in their home gym. I've really enjoyed this group of seniors the past four years and not just on the basketball court. I've watched them mature from middle schoolers to seniors. I've seen their friendships evolved and some dissolve. I've enjoyed coaching them in a sport, watching them play other sports, and watching them endure their high school growing pains. It's been fun watching what path they've each taken in life.
Tonight as the senior bios were read, I was honored that my name was mentioned by a few of the girls. It made me happy to know I've guided them in some way and been part of their high school careers. I wish success for each of them in their future.
Tonight I am thankful for being a part of senior night at Western.
Below is a picture of the team excited as senior Michelle Leavitt hit a three pointer!

Dinner with Grandma
Last night Josh and I decided to take my grandma to dinner tonight.
At 7 pm we met grandma Steven's at The Ground Round. We each ate salads and talked about TV, family and grandma's past. It was a fun meal with grandma.
Tonight I am thankful to be able to have dinner with my Grandma Stevens.

Early Gym Time
Wednesday's are double workout days for out of season softball girls and for the coach. We have conditioning/lifting from 145 to 3pm. It's the only time the small gym is open without a winter sport using it. The girls get a good agility workout and lots of lifting in.
Then from 7pm to 9pm we have four on one hitting in the gym too. Each player signs up for a 30 minute time slot. Today however, the small gym was not being used after conditioning so we set up the machine and hit early!!
The girls and myself were glad to have an evening at home. Tonight I am thankful for open gym time at 3pm! :)

A Valentine's Day Visitor
Today, I had two visitors at lunch time. One was my sister Tara and the other my favorite niece (only so far so it's okay to say) Paige Marie.
They brought me Jimmy John's for lunch. #11, no mayo. :). They also brought me some Valentine's Day treats: heart shaped rice crispies and chocolate covered softball suckers. :) The rice crispies were home made!! Nice baking Paige.
Today, I loved my lunch time visitors. :) Paige even ate with us too.

Babysitting
I went to work today thinking I'd get to spend a Monday night at home. No practice, no WABC meetings, nada.
However, Trisha needed a babysitter while she took her evening class. Her mother in law couldn't do it tonight. So I went to spend the evening with my nephews. We colored, did puzzles, read some books, and built tower out of blocks. :) Eastyn fought sleep until he finally passes out.
Tonight I am thankful that my schedule allowed my me the freedom to go watch my sisters kids for the night. Good times!

Valentine's Day Goodies!
Today Josh and I got a visit from my mom and Larry. Every year my mom has gotten me a Valentine's Day gift. As a kid, I always looked forward to these gifts. My mom was good at gifts! :)
Today I am thankful for my moms (and Larry's) Valentine's Day gifts. Oh, and we can blame the empty spot on Josh who also enjoyed our Valentine's Day gift too. :)

Lunch
I am starting to feel like all my posts are about food, but today it wasn't the food, it was the gesture it entailed.
Today was my Sarurday to work. Today was our Gymnastics Invite. I was at the school for most the day. Around 11:30am, Josh asked me if I'd like some lunch. I gave him my Subway order and about 12:30pm, he brought me lunch. We got to eat together in my office. :) He even got my favorite chocolate chip cookies!
Today, I am thankful to have such a nice husband. Josh is great.
Olive Garden
Ahhhh! I forgot to do this blog last night!
Today I am thankful for my time at home tonight. It had been a crazy work week so I worked Friday day, but not Friday evening's basketball games.
Since Josh and I had not had dinner together but once this week, we decided to go to The Olive Garden. We called Tara, Craig and Paige and they met us too. We had a yummy carb loaded dinner together.

Dentist
I started my day out a little on the tired side, but I wanted it to be a productive day. I got to work, took off my coat, put in a piece of gum and that when my daily planned changed.
Now, I was born with the ugliest teeth God could have created. They grew barely grew left and right, more like side ways! Not only that, but they were each discolored with yellow spots like a cow with his black spots. Too much floride in Florida as a child I was told. Anyway, I got bonding on the front 6 to make them whiter after my three years in braces. Then I got veneers from Dr. John Sheets right before our wedding in 2005.
Today, as I went to chew my first piece of gum my (number 5) broke off right into my mouth. An instant pain more like sensation hit my tooth as the bare tooth under it was exposed to the air. Ouch! Embarrassing too.
I called Dr. Sheets' office and had an appointment at 8:40am. They were busy and I spent about an hour in the chair watching Live with Kelly. They put some Kraze Glue (not really) on and slapped it back on. I'm good to go.
Today I am thankful for my wonderful dentist office Sheets Family Dentistry. They are awesome! What did we ever do without dentists?!

Suzy Merchant
Today was day two of the Women's Leadership Conference in Lansing. The day could not have started out any better. The guest speaker was Michigan State University Women's Basketball Coach Suzy Merchant! She spoke to over 600 female athletes about Leadership by Example.
Her topic covered every thing from toughness, work ethic, having visions, passion, and having a voice. Her story about an 82 year old Michigan State girls basketball fan they called Grandma Pat didn't leave a dry eye in the room!! She was awesome. I see her interviews in the mornings on channel 10 news and think she's probably an awesome person and coach. Today confirmed that for me.
Suzy is an example of a great female leader in today's world. I'm happy to say I got to hear her speak, take a picture with her, and introduce myself.

Leadership Conference
Today I got the pleasure of going to the MHSAA Women's Leadership Conference in Lansing.
Myself, two other HS coaches, and seven HS athletes left the school at 830am for the conference. Each room of the hotel held different college coaches or college Professors, most of them from Michigan State University. I personally found many of the speakers interesting. They shared research about today's athletes from their work ethic to athletic ability. Personally, Dr. Marty Ewing's "Coaching Today's Millennial Athlete" was a very educational presentation. She kept everyone's attention the entire hour. It was a fun day with our female athletes. We even ate lunch at Panera! :)
Tomorrow, Suzy Merchant MSU's women's basketball coach will start the conference with an hour and a half speech. Looking forward to seeing her in person.
Today I am thankful to be able to spend my day with 600+ female athletes and coaches all across the state of Michigan. The speakers make me excited to be coaching High School female athletes!!

Aunt Tonya and Uncle Josh
Today we got to spend the day with our niece Paige Marie Ziecina.
Every other weekend Tara and Craig work 3rd shifts so Paige needs a babysitter. Today was our day. I met Tara at the park and ride in Grass Lake and took Paige home with me.
She was a little fussy because her teeth were coming in but a little baby gel helped that. :) We played with her toys, had a quick nap, ate a few bottles and even met my mom and Larry for dinner at the Ground Round. They asked us to dinner, but we know they really just wanted to see Paige. Ha.
She's asleep in the spare bedroom right now. :) I can hear her moving on the baby monitor.
I am thankful that I get to be a part of my niece's life. I am thankful she is comfortable spending the night at our house. We are always happy to help out the family.

Book Stores
Tonight, after I got home from the all day softball conference, I was motivated to read a few inspirational books. So when I got home, Josh and I jumped in the car and headed to Ann Arbor to Barnes and Noble.
I love book stores. Something about seeing all the colorful covers, makes me want to read. It saddens me that many bookstores are closing. We saw a Borders closed along the way. Yes, I realized mine and millions of others Kindles, Nooks, and E-readers are much to blame. Yes, I'm guilty!! Shame on me. However a bookstore is a whole new world.
Tonight, I as I browsed my book section, I stopped and took a look around at all the people sitting, reading, listening to music, surfing the web, and drinking coffee while enjoying the comfort of Barns and Noble. I hope at less a few bookstores can remain open. Josh and I love to make a few yearly stops into one.
Tonight I purchased the book below that another softball Coach had on her reading list. I'm looking forward to starting the book tomorrow.

Naps
Today, my 4:15 meeting was canceled!! This meant I got to go home at 3:00pm! I left my office at 3:30pm and went home.
When I got home, I put on my favorite sweatpants, grabbed my comfy blanket, put my phone on silent, and took a 45 minute nap on the couch. My favorite part of the day!!
Today I am thankful that my meeting got canceled and I got to take my nap today. It was just what I needed. :)

Softball Workouts
Today I am thankful for softball workouts!!
Wednesday's are the days that I get to spend a lot of time with my softball players. Wednesday's make me excited for softball season which is only 5 weeks away!! Today, about 18 softball players and 18 tennis players did their weekly conditioning and lifting workouts after school. They worked really hard and ended the workout with two laps around the track outside. :) I'm impressed with my girls who have been consistently lifting and getting stronger since October.
Tonight, many of the returning varsity players, returned to the gym from 7 to 9pm for four on one workouts. Our assistant coaches, Coach Farmer and Coach O'Dell came out to help with hitting tonight too. (Way too much fun.) It was nice to see the girls put in the extra time perfecting their swing. It will only pay off this season. I'm happy that these girls want to have a successful softball season. The know how to push themselves in the off season.

Today I am thankful for our softball winter workouts. I'm proud of the off season work these girls have put in. I'm looking forward to softball 2012.
